May 2020

Well, 2020 hasn't quite worked out as expected. I'm now back in Scotland earlier than intended (I was going to be moving up in June for a couple of years), and getting stuck into some composing (new solo EP at the end of the year) and various online collaborations. And giving online lessons. Who knows what the rest of 2020 holds??

January 2020

Happy New Year to you all! I had a busy end of the year in 2019, with project called Coven (about witches!) and working with lewis Barfoot as well as a tour with Joglaresa and solo performances.

2020 looks to be action packed, with more Joglaresa activity from March onwards, occasional gigs with Solasta and looking towards April and May, performances with Idrisi and possibly Lewis Barfoot. In February I'm up in Scotland playing at Celtic Connections as part of Bogha Frois. Very excited to be part of this!

September 2019

After a very enjoyable summer, the highlight of which was taking my one-person show Roots to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, it's back to London for my third year of nursery music and lots of playing. Shamblestone have quite a few gigs between now and Christmas (check the gigs listing and/or Shamblestone's facebook page for details). My next theatre project is a commission for the Wighton Centre in Dundee based on a manuscript book of favourite tunes written down by an Angus gentlewoman called Christina Gib in the late 1830s. This will preview on October 26th at 11am in Central Library, and it would be great to see you there...

I've got several different gigs coming up with various bands - Shamblestone (as mentioned), Solasta, Joglaresa and a new exciting project about witches with Daisy Chute from the HEARD Collective.

I'm also releasing an EP called the Lullaby Project at the end of October - check out the bandcamp link on my facebook page.

And finally, my big project for the late summer/autumn months is a podcast featuring women in folk - 15 minutes with...

June 2019

Another month and the schools are out - I've had a good year working in all my early year and SEN schools but am lookng forward to spending a couple of months doing theatre and gigging with Shamblestone over the summer - have a look at the gigs page to see what I'm doing in your area!

April 2019

Spring is come! I've had a busy time in the first few months of the year, and am looking forward to performing the results of all the rehearsing over the spring and summer...have a look at the gigs page to see what's happening :)

January 2019

Merry Christmas  and a Happy New Year! 2019 is starting for me with a couple of Shamblestone gigs. Joanna and I will be playing at our Scottish EP launch on Saturday January 5th in the Wighton Centre, Dundee Central Library - the concert starts at 11am and there will be EPs and bags to buy (#6 and #3). We then move to London for the London launch (!) at Green Note in Camden on Tuesday 8th (8pm) and then another gig at Islington Folk Club on the  Thursday night, 10th. Hope to see some of you there!

November 2018

Christmas is coming and I have the perfect Christmas present! Solasta have released our album Cure for the Curious and it's available to buy from any of the band or from our website. We had great fun touring the tunes round bits of England and look forward to taking ourselves to Wales in February 2019 for a few gigs there.

Meanwhile, Shamblestone are in the finishing stages of producing their EP and are hopefully launching that in January in Dundee.

My one-person show, ROOTS, is all set for the Edinburgh Fringe summer 2019, with a first full performance happening at the Lewisham Fringe on November 13th at 7pm in the London Theatre.

September 2018

Well, I've had a great summer playing lots of gigs with Shamblestone and also trying out my one-person show Roots in my home town! It's back to London now, with gigs with Solasta to launch the new album - Cure for the Curious - and the monthly sessions in Borough, along with a cute selection of nursery children :) And the first-ever performance of Roots in a theatre at the Lewisham Fringe in November...

July 2018

The end of term is nigh and summer beckons! Shamblestone has already experienced our first festival of the summer (thank you Solas) and Solasta enjoyed playing at Henley Festival this month. I had a great night with Cupar Arts Festival in June and am now looking forward to gigs in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August.

The launch date for Solasta's new album - Cure for the Curious - is September 24th in the Greenote , Camden, and just when that's done and dusted, Shamblestone are about to start the whole album-recording process at Stage 2000, Dundee, in August. More dates for Roots are coming up too - check the gigs page for one near you!

June 2018

Happy summer to all! I've had a busy couple of months getting organised for the upcoming months - Shamblestone are being particularly active in July and August and the Solasta CD rumbles on (launch date in September now, with subscribers getting their albums in August). Most exciting, I've been trialling my new one-woman project "Roots" at scratch nights in London and am suitably encouraged to make it into a longer performance piece. Watch this space....

March 2018

Spring is coming! I've been busy playing with Solasta(fiddle) and Palisander (recorder) the past couple of months. And Solasta are keeping up with the deadlines as we work towards releasing our first album in May.

A final piece of exciting news from GSMD - I won the Rose Lawrence Horner Academic Award for distinction-level academic work from BMus & MMus students for my 4th year dissertation on broadside ballads.

January 2018

Happy New Year!

Solasta are playing at the Basement in Shoreditch January 11th, 12th and 13th. Follow the link to find out more...

December 2017

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all!

This month saw Solasta perform their first gig as part of the Live Music Now scheme - we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and can't wait for our next appearance under their auspices. I successfully completed my first term as an early years' music practitioner, with a musical version of "Twas the night before Christmas" being shown to adoring parents in most of the nurseries in which I work.

I've also been privileged to work with two spoken word artists recently - Jet Sweeney and Bella Cox. You can see a video of Bella and I's performance on the right  :)

November 2017

I've had a busy month or so as I begin my life as a Not-A-Student! Thoroughly enjoying being an early years music practitioner in a few nurseries around London and filling my weekends with exciting musical activities. Solasta are still busy, with a weekend at the Great British Folk Festival coming up in Skegness in December,  and this month sees me reprise a concert I played in in July (with a Nordic Folk ensemble)in London, this time in Vaas in Finland - really looking forward to that!

Graduation is (finally) on the 3rd November - I'll then officially be a B.Mus(Hons) in Classical Recorder (First Class). I am enjoying having the time to sleep, eat and play without the studying though :)

September 2017

I had a great time in Scotland touring with Solasta, and now this month we head to Wales to record our debut album - great excitement. Thanks to all of you who have contributed to our Kickstarter to make this possible. I also had a turn at the Edinburgh Fringe as part of the house band for Alec Salmond Unleashed - thanks to Mikey and the Carloways for having me onboard! After the recording is over, I have a weekend in France playing with Palisander recorder quartet - one of the quartet is about to have a baby, so this is a very unusual maternity cover!

August 2017

Solasta are raising funds for their debut album!  Please follow the link below to find out about the rewards on offer for our fans (!) - we aim to record the album in September and have it released Spring 2018.

July 2017

The summer beckons! I've been enjoying the varied life of an itinerant musician, playing at a medieval afternoon (medieval fiddle and recorder) in an ancient barn near Bristol and for a collaborative recording featuring an Indian singer, a hurdy gurdy and me playing Indian-style. Solasta are getting ready for some serious work before Sidmouth Festival and our trip to Scotland (check the gigs page for dates and venues). Crowdfunding video is being edited as I write, and the dates for Solasta recording are set for September.

And after that excitement I get to travel to France at the end of September, depping in recorder quartet Palisander.

May 2017

Not long till the summer comes and final recitals are done and dusted! My life as a classical recorder player reaches the giddy heights of 4th year Final Recital on June 5th - be lovely to see an audience at 10am in Silk Street Hall!

Shamblestone (Joanna and I) are playing in Verdant Works ' Dundee lunchtime concert series on June 16th - starts around 1pm and again, it would be great to have a large happy audience there.

Solasta are very busy in the summer  - we're hoping to launch our fundraising campaign for our CD soon, and we will be performing around London (as usual) and also at Sidmouth Festival at the beginning of August and up in Scotland for a mini-tour at the end of August - check out the dates on the GIGS page.

April 2017

Well 4th year is marching towards its conclusion and life is looking good.

Shamblestone had a great weekend in Kendal and although we didn't get chosen as one of the four final nominees, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and are hoping to get some more gigs in over the summer.

At GSMD I spent January and February perfecting my medieval fiddle and bagpipe skills for the performances of new opera, "The Tale of Januarie" - a fantastic opportunity to work on a large-scale opera project.

Solasta continue to play their way round London - quite a few gigs over the next few months, so check out our fb page or website.

I am one of the backing singers in Richard Maule's new release - check me out here:

https://www.facebook.com/pg/Richard.Maule/videos/?ref=page_internal

And I'm still busking for tfL and hopefully next term at Shoreditch Boxpark too -  if you see me around, do say hello!

2017 here I come!

The year is beginning superbly with Joanna (Stark) and I  - now known collectively as Shamblestone - taking part in the semi-finals of BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award's weekend in Kendal, January 20 - 22. We're really looking forward to a weekend of music-making and socialising!

Solasta continue to be very busy -  see below for links to some of our upcoming gigs, and check out the whole story on the Solasta facebook page or website.

The second pressing of our EP has arrived, so if you haven't already got one...

We were played on Radio Wales in September and on an Irish local radio station in November - very exciting :)
